6 shots, 1 dead after night shooting on Central Avenue

ALBANY, NY (WTEN) – A total of six people were shot and one died, after two separate shootings Tuesday morning, according to the Albany Police Department.

At around 1:20 a.m., officers responded to the Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue area to report gunshots. Upon arrival, officers found evidence consistent with gunshots and two men who had been shot, police said.

Both victims were treated at the scene and taken to Albany Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Three other men also entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds, which police say were sustained in the same incident on Central Avenue and Lexington Avenue.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Central Avenue, just west of Ontario Street, to report another shooting. Upon arrival, police found a 36-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the chest.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the victim will not be released until appropriate notifications have been made, police said.

At this time, both incidents are still under investigation and it is unclear at this time if they are related.
