Agreement approved for the extension of the sidewalk on Duluth Avenue

An agreement between the City of Sturgeon Bay, Door County and 911 Green Bay Road Partners to install a sidewalk along South Duluth Avenue (S County) was approved last week by the Sturgeon City Council Bay as part of its consent program.

The property known as Woldt’s Corner Pub at the southwest corner of Highway 42-57 and Duluth Avenue is being redeveloped this year by 911 Green Bay Road Partners into a three-unit retail building with a drive-thru.

While the city and county highway department are currently working on a proposal to extend sidewalks along Duluth Avenue south across the highway, Community Development Manager Marty Olejniczak said that it made sense for 911 Green Bay Road Partners to install a sidewalk as part of this redevelopment. treat.

The agreement includes the creation and registration of an easement along the eastern edge of the property by the partners at 911 Green Bay Road to install, operate and maintain a public sidewalk.

With that section of sidewalk expected to cost about $17,000, Olejniczak said the city would provide a loan to 911 Green Bay Road Partners equal to the cost, with the loan to be repaid in 12 annual installments at the prime interest rate.

Maintenance, repair, or reconstruction of the sidewalk would be at the city’s expense, according to the agreement, and the county and city have agreed that no assessment will be charged to the property for any future sidewalk expansion through of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. of-way to the north or along county S to the south.

Last month, the council approved a contract with Cedar Corporation to write a grant application to seek state and federal funding for the sidewalk extension project, which, if awarded, said Olejniczak, would probably not start until 2024.

Overall plans for the project call for sidewalks, sidewalks, and storm sewers to extend along the west side of South Duluth all the way south to the Door County Justice Center entrance, but these urbanized improvements do not would not extend as far south on the east side of the street. , where the city limits end further north.
