LOCK HAVEN – The combination of skateboards and books is not common. But at Avenue Bookstore you can find everything you need for both.
The bookstore, located at 10 Bellefonte Ave., Lock Haven, opened in April and offers a wide range of books – from fiction to non-fiction, used and new and everything in between – as well as vinyl records, DVDs and coffee products. .
Now owner Kris McMann has branched out into another market: skateboards.
“I had a space that wasn’t being used and with skatepark renovations planned for next year, it seemed to fit the community,” McMan explained.
The back of the store is stocked with finished skateboards, boards, wheels and other accessories as well as books, clothing like hats and hoodies and other items for the everyday skateboarder .
McMann noted that she will also have issues of Thrasher, a quarterly magazine, when they become available as well.
With the holidays coming up soon, McMann hopes those who like to skate, or know someone who does, might stop by and consider buying an item or two.
And to help cut costs, McMann said she’s willing to put skateboards aside.
“The cost of full board can be a bit steep depending on what you’re looking at, so I wanted to give people the option to set aside. I wouldn’t ask someone to deposit a large amount of money all at once. she says.
McMann encourages book lovers and skateboarders to stop by and see what she’s got.
“Don’t skate and read at the same time” she joked.
The Avenue Bookstore is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
