Cheeky armed robbery at Caltrain station in Palo Alto University Avenue – CBS San Francisco

PALO ALTO (CBS SF) – Two suspects stole a woman’s backpack, Nike tennis shoes and other belongings at University Avenue Caltrain station on Tuesday afternoon, pointing a gun at an 80-year-old woman who had come to his aid before fleeing.

Palo Alto Police said their 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a woman in her 20s reporting the brazen armed robbery at around 4:17 p.m.

Officers responded to the station immediately, but were unable to locate the suspects still at large.

Investigators said the victim was standing near the train platform near the bus U-turn when two suspects brandished a black handgun at her. They took her backpack, credit cards, a portable charger, and the Nike tennis shoes she was wearing.

A passerby, a woman in her 80s, tried to help her but stopped when the suspect also pointed his gun at her.

The suspects then ran towards a white four-door Nissan sedan, which was last seen heading towards University Circle.

Fortunately, neither of the two victims was physically injured.

The victim described the suspects as two Hispanic men, each around 25 years old and wearing black shirts and face coverings.

Investigators said the theft appeared to be an isolated incident. There were no similar crimes in the
recent past in the transit stations of Palo Alto.
