Dubai, United Arab Emirates: Mawaheb, a Dubai-based non-profit art studio for determined people aged 18 and over, has announced its reopening, welcoming students to its new location on GC Avenue – Al Quoz.
The new community studio and cafe will serve as a meeting point where all members of the community can meet and learn from each other. Spread over 3,000 square feet, the community cafe is adjacent to a nearby warehouse, which will serve as a studio where students will learn art and life skills.
Wemmy de Maaker, Director of Mawaheb, said, “After 10 rewarding years at our first location in the historic Al Fahidi district, it is with great pleasure that we announce our new location in Al Quoz. We are grateful for the wise counsel of the leaders of Dubai and their support for the determined people and their families which has enabled us to pursue our mission of bringing the determined people and society together and demonstrating that each is unique in their own way. Over the years, our students have grown and explored opportunities such as participation in Expo 2020 with motivational talks, exhibitions at DXB airport and galleries across the UAE, as well as participation in many national organizations to explore their potential. We are privileged to have played such an important role in their journeys and hope that we always represent a space to inspire people of determination with renewed energy, renewed perspective and new space.”
In line with the government’s recent announcement focusing on the redevelopment of Al Quoz, into a new creative zone, the new location of Mawaheb will be a hub for culture, innovation and talent.
The community cafe will be the place where all members of the community can meet and participate in workshops or extracurricular activities. At the same time, in the warehouse next door, students will be able to develop their life skills through art and training sessions under the supervision of professional trainers.
Mawaheb, founded in 2010, brings to life the talents, thoughts and aspirations of young adults with special needs. Our artists are known in the United Arab Emirates as “The Determined Ones”.
After being closed for a year, we are delighted to announce that our beautiful Mawaheb community is returning in early 2022 to GC Avenue in Al Quoz. Including a studio and cafe where all members of the community can meet and learn from each other. The new Mawaheb studio will be a meeting place for leisure or work, to meet our students, or to participate in workshops. At the same time, in the warehouse next door, our students will work on their life skills through art and training sessions under the supervision of professional trainers. The concept behind Mawaheb is to bridge the gap between society and determined people who can often lack direction once they have completed their education.
