Rendering of downtown Hanna Avenue.City of Tampa

The City of Tampa is looking for an artist nationwide to create artwork for the new downtown Hanna Avenue. A selection committee has expressed interest in a broad signature sculpture serve as a reception and identifier for an important equipment of the city. The place where the works of art will be located is destined to become the center of social, cultural and economic life in East Tampa, the Agora. The deadline for artists to submit their proposal is November 18, 2022.

Downtown on Hanna Avenue

The City of Tampa is constructing a government services facility on the vacant property at 2515 East Hanna Avenue. This facility, called The City Center at Hanna Avenue, will be a state-of-the-art LEED Silver building. The 161,000 square feet will house employees of seven municipal departments.

The idea behind the construction of a government building in this area is to improve the customer experience for citizens and businesses, provide community gathering space, provide much needed green space to the surrounding neighborhoods and eliminate the need to rent space for municipal services at a lower cost. Along with the town center, a parking garage and fleet maintenance enclosure will also be on the 11-acre site.

The entrance plaza will contain a multipurpose lawn, paved area and stepped terraces for different events and activities. A solar awning will provide coverage while generating power. The mixed-use lawn and sidewalk area will feature rain gardens to naturally filter runoff.

In addition, the spaces in the main building facing the entrance plaza will include a community hall and a café. The sculpture on the paved area is expected to anchor the public plaza and provide a sense of identity to the East Tampa community.
