A man was killed and another injured on Saturday in a shooting in front of a gas station located south of Avenue Claiborne, in the district of Leonidas. It was the second homicide on Christmas Day in New Orleans.
Police responded shortly before 1 p.m. at the Discount Corner gas station in the 8700 block of South Claiborne Avenue, according to a press release from NOPD. Police said the two victims, both 31, ran from the gas station to a residence on Monroe Street. They were taken by ambulance to hospital, where one of the men died.
A police cordon cordoned off the parking lot of the gas station, where a window had been shattered. A separate cordon was in place at the intersection of Nelson Street and Monroe Street.
About two hours earlier, police responded to a call from a shot dead man in a grassy area behind a house on Plum Orchard Avenue. They found the victim dead from a gunshot wound in the lot, which is in the 7300 block of the Chef Menteur Expressway.
Police did not disclose any further details.
