Opening of the new public plaza at 550 Madison Avenue in Midtown East, Manhattan

The new Public Square at 550 Madison Avenue, a 37-story commercial skyscraper in Midtown East, is now open. Designed by Snøhetta and developed by Olayan Group and RXR Realty, the new Private Public Space (POPS) is surrounded by a 70-foot-tall steel-framed glass canopy and is part of a larger renovation of the Postmodern designed by landmark Philip Johnson, as well as a renovated lobby designed by Gensler. AECOM Tishman was the general contractor for the 21,000 square foot renovations to the property, located between East 55th and 56th Streets.

Recent photos show the completed look of the accessible space at ADA, which has been fully completed since our last update in July. The project team for the plaza also included Adamson Associates Architects as official architect, SiteWorks as landscape architect, Arup as lighting designer, Phyto studio providing dirt, Orange County Ironworks as fabricator of steel and Gabriel Steel Erectors erecting the steel. – framed awning,
