The Great American Hero Sandwich Shop at 4001 Lemmon Ave. closes later this month. It will move to the Timber Creek Crossing Mall at Skillman and Northwest Highway, and plans to reopen in September.
Shug’s Bagels will open its second location in Dallas when it takes over Lemmon’s eye-catching pink and yellow building. The popular bagel shop debuted near the SMU campus in 2020 and has become known for its freshly baked bagels and customizable options.
Justin Shugrue, owner and operator of Shug’s Bagels, says construction will begin soon and a major change is coming to the location.
“We will not keep the same colors of the property. But the shape and feel and vibe of it, I aim to keep the same,” Shugrue said. “There is enormous charm and sentimental value in the property and I intend to salvage as much of it as possible. The iconic roof shape, large monument signage, and cozy patio will all be very similar in design. »
This change will be a harsh farewell for fans of the pink and yellow building, especially those who use the exterior as a backdrop for Instagram-worthy photos.
Although Shug’s won’t keep the bright colors of the building, they hope to use a feature that will allow them to reach more customers.
“Having the ability to use the drive-thru as a pickup window for online orders will be great for us. Already a third of our orders at the first Shug location are ‘online order pickups’, and our first property is not built to handle that,” Shugrue said. “With a second location pickup/pickup window, it will be super efficient and provide an amazing product and service to the community.
Shugrue hopes to open this second location in the summer of 2023 once construction is underway.
