Little Venice has always been known as one of the most beautiful places to go in London. With its superb promenades and pretty houseboats, it offers Londoners respite from the hustle and bustle of city life. The area is also home to one of London’s ‘best Sunday roasts’ and while I wish to keep the location a secret, I have to tell you about it.
The Hero of Maida is a beautiful traditional Victorian pub located between Warwick Avenue and Little Venice, and it’s safe to say it has captured the hearts of Londoners. Looking at their menu, the dishes are above your standard pub. The chef has managed to rework classic dishes without falling into extravagance and without adding ingredients to feel out of place. Dishes include Wwild Garlic Risotto, Purple Sprout Broccoli, Mangilitza Pork Chop and Cornish Cod.

When it comes to drinks, the pub has a well-thought-out drink list and offers quality options, such as Landlord Pale Ale and a wide range of flavored gins. They also have Japanese whiskey and blended scotch options if you’re feeling adventurous.
The interiors are also Instagrammable and perfect, giving a typical British pub feel. The pub is flooded with natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows and is very relaxed with blue velvet seating and the walls are dotted with adorable sketches and framed photos.
One only has to do a quick scan of TripAdvisor to see that virtually every customer has left rave reviews, especially their Sunday roasts and pies. A 5 star review said: “What a gem! No wonder it’s listed as one of the best gastro pubs in London. I was there a few days ago and the food was truly amazing, came back a few days later.”
A second customer posted: “One of the best Sunday roasts in London. Incredibly tender and juicy beef. The leek gratin is powerful and full of flavor and the onion carrot is just something special. The Yorkshire pudding is gigantic, crispy and with perfect flavor. ”
A third simply said: “The food in this lovely Victorian pub was amazing. Choose the beef shin pie baked in red wine with bone marrow. You will think you died and went to heaven. The triple baked fries were also gorgeous.
The Hero of Maida also has five boutique hotel rooms that have all been individually designed, so if you’re thinking of staying here next time you’re in town, you’re in luck. To sum it up: delicious food, great interiors and unique drinks.
