People living in an illegal trailer park near downtown Port Alberni will soon have the option of moving into newly built tiny homes next month.
The single-person units, also known as sleeping cabins, measure 3.6 meters by 2.5 meters (12 × 8 feet) and will come with separate bathrooms and showers.
The Port Alberni Friendship Center, which is leading the project, hopes to have up to 30 pods at the site, which is in the 3600 block of Fourth Avenue.
People living in trailers on adjacent property will first have the opportunity to move into the new Port Alberni Tiny Homes.
North Island College and the Nuu-chah-nulth Employment and Training Program are participating in the project.
Thirteen NIC carpentry students were on hand to prepare it for the arrival of the new homes. They should start arriving next week.
